Overview

There are 3 DVSA tests that form the qualification of DVSA ADI (Driver & Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor).

Below is a brief overview of each step of the process…

Part 1 - Theory and Hazard Perception Test

The Theory and Hazard Perception Test is similar to the test that a learner driver takes.

However, as you are an experienced driver, you will be expected to have a greater understanding and knowledge and are tested to a higher standard.

Part 2 - Test of Driving Ability

The Test of Driving Ability is similar to the driving test that you have already passed.

Once again as you are an experienced driver, you will be expected to have a greater understanding and knowledge.

Part 3 - Test of Instructional Ability

The Test of Instructional Ability assesses your teaching skills.

Now that you are an expert at driving, you will be asked to show that you can teach a learner and also fix any faults in their driving.

Process

You must sit each test in order (you can’t sit Part 2 until you have passed Part 1).

Once you have passed Part 1, you have 2 years to then pass Part 2 & 3.

If the 2 years runs out, you will start again from Part 1.

The Training course for the ADI certificate has been very well developed and delivered. All aspects of the course are developmental and put into practice as you progress. Manageable timelines and targets are set, this allowed me to be organised and set time aside to complete the work to the timelines. All this while working at the same time. The support is outstanding and available as and when required, by email or phone. The strange and unexpected experience to arise is that I feel that while completing the online and live driving course, all of the staff I have been involved with within the course delivery have made me feel as though I was an important part of the team. In short, outstanding course materials, delivery, online support, face to face support and very professional staff.
